Founded in 2007, MENTES FRITAS has built a strong Caribbean identity in all its projects. Its first feature film, AZUL MAGIA, was highly praised by Dominican critics for its artistic achievements and has accumulated over 9 million views on streaming platforms. MF has co-produced projects like RAFAELA, directed by Tito Rodríguez, which won PRIMERA MIRADA at the Panama International Film Festival, as well as being an Official Selection at the International Film Festival of India, Ícaro Film Festival, and the Havana Film Festival. It also won Best Feature Film at the Puerto Rico Film Festival, Best Director at the Dominican Film Festival in New York, and Best Drama at the La Silla DR Awards.

 

Its third feature film, EL DÍA DE LA TORMENTA, is a thriller directed by Alexander Viola, winner of BEST FEATURE FILM at the Dominican Film Festival in New York. Its latest project, LA BACHATA DE BIONICO, directed by Yoel Morales, premiered at the prestigious South by Southwest [SXSW] festival, where it won the Global Audience Award. It was also an Official Selection at Open Doors Screenings at the Locarno Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival, and winner of many awards.

 

FRAGANCIA TROPICAL, directed by Alexander Viola, is its first docufiction film, winner of FONPROCINE 2024 in the “Documentary Post-Production” category and selected for Málaga WIP 2025. The company is currently developing EL AMOR EN LOS TIEMPOS DE BACANERIA, the debut feature of Patricia Pepen, which participated in Nuevas Miradas 2024 and won a direct pass to SAPCINE 2025. It will also be part of the Warmi Lab at the Málaga Film Festival 2025.
